In Brief about M.Ch (pediatric Surgery) Training programme.
This is a super specialty training programme and is for a period of 3 years
exclusively in Paediatric surgery (General, Neonatal, Urology, Hepatobilary,
and Laparoscopy). One gets into this tough training programme only after
obtaining a 3 years of specialty training in General surgery.
During the first year, we are trained to do basic surgeries like circumcision,
inguinal herniotomy, lymph node biopsies, orchiopexy, emergency procedures
like insertion of chest tube drain, endotracheal intubations, newborn colostomy
making, Gastrostomy, anoplasty, appendectonry etc. In second year, all
emergency procedures from surgery on oesophageal atresia, duodenal
ateresia, small bowel atresia, congenital diaphragmatic repair, reduction of
intussusception, pyloromyotomy, ladd’s procedure, and elective procedures
like MMC repair, hypospadias repair, splenectomy etc. are done under indirect
supervision. In final year we are trained to do all pull through procedures
(ARM, HD) and assist in major surgeries.
 As part of the curriculum, we do case presentation, subject seminars, and have
one research project.We also have to attend local and National conferences and present papers
and posters at such meets.
 We also take classes to post graduate students .
